BALANCED DEVELOPMENT
POINT #1:
Belmont needs smart, sustainable growth. Residential development has outpaced commercial and retail expansion, creating a gap in services for our residents. Projects like the Stowe downtown expansion, rehabilitation of the old Belmont Middle School and Crescent development in East End are opportunities to attract high-quality businesses and build a stronger local economy. Additionally, the proposed Riverfront Development in East Belmont, tied to Charlotte’s expansion along the Catawba River, has the potential to bring tremendous economic growth to our community. It’s critical that Belmont actively participates in planning and negotiating this development to ensure it benefits our city, rather than simply becoming an affordable extension of Charlotte.
